HYUN JI KWON


BIO
Hyun Ji Kwon is a versatile cellist whose career spans classical and contemporary music, Broadway productions, pop music, and film score recording. She recently performed in the Broadway musical The Queen of Versailles and previously toured with the Broadway revival of 1776. Her musical theater work also includes numerous touring, pre-Broadway, and regional productions throughout New England and in Seoul, Korea.
An active soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player, Kwon is a member of the Boston Lyric Opera, Meadowlark Trio, Echo Bridge Cellos, and the Convergence Ensemble. She performs regularly with the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra.
Kwon’s recording credits include original motion picture soundtracks for major Korean films such as Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Hello Brother, and Blood Rain.
As an educator, Kwon has taught at Colby College, Boston University, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI). She is currently on faculty at Phillips Exeter Academy and Project STEP.
Kwon holds degrees from Ewha Womans University (BM), the New England Conservatory (MM, GD), and Boston University (DMA).
